I’m starting to get my 1099′s and W-2s in the mail – I’m getting anxious to start doing my taxes! I’m hoping for a big refund check this year. I’m in a little bit of a quandary, though. I got both Turbo Tax and H&R’s Tax cut software in the mail for free, and I’m not sure which one I really want to use! I know they are both good programs! What to do, what to do!? What would you recommend?

I was watching the Superbowl commercial for cash 4 gold on their Internet Website a few minutes ago. The commercial stars Ed McMahon and MC Hammer and is promoting the business cash 4 gold, which buys gold, silver, platinum, and fine jewelry. It seems to me that in this economy, where the stock market is so volatile, that a lot of people are interested in selling their unwanted precious metals because the price of those metals usually goes up when the stock market is struggling. I seem to recall this sort of thing happened back in the 1980′s – the price of gold and silver went up so much that lots of people were selling their silverware and silver candle sticks because they were able to sell them for three or four times their original selling price!
I remember back then that my uncle worked for a coin dealer that was buying gold and silver at the time, and my uncle would bring home some nice gold and silver jewelry for my aunt that the store had bought from consumers who were bringing them in to sell. He brought her several nice gold bracelets, and some nice silver candlesticks.
Anyway, the commercial was funny – I liked the part where MC Hammer and Ed McMahon were talking about turning in their gold trophies for cash. I got a good laugh at the end when Ed McMahon was stroking some large gold cup trophies and saying “good bye, old friend.” Very funny!

My sister lives in a little town in rural Maine. I gave her a call today, to see how she was doing. She’s been buried with snow, and now she says that it is really hard to get warm there today. She said it is 20 below zero today at her place! I wasn’t sure whether to feel sorry for her, or gloat for me, or both because it is 50 degrees above here today! That’s a big difference in temperature – a 70 degree spread! I told her that she should move down here!

A bunch of my friends at work have been talking about starting a paintball “>paintball league, and have asked me to join them in the league. I told them that I’ve never played paintball before, but that doesn’t seem to matter to them at all! They say that they know I’m in pretty good shape and would do well at it. I guess they figure that since I’ve been bragging about how good I’ve been doing on the gun range and qualified for my concealed weapons license that I’d be a good addition to their team.
Well, I think it sounds like a lot of fun to be honest with you! One of them told me that he’d lend me his gear to try it out next weekend when the rest of them get together for a practice session, since he is going to be out of town that weekend anyway. So I figure, why not give it a shot? (Pun not intended, but serendipitous just the same!)
So I’ve been spending some time on the Internet looking at where their are paintball fields in the area, and what I can expect to find when I decide that I really want to get into this sport and need to buy myself some paintball guns of my own. My friends told me to check out the ultimatepaintball.com website, saying that they have the best selection and prices on everything I would want or need for playing paintball. So I’ve been looking around to get an idea of what the expense will be if I decide to join the league. I have to say that I’m quite impressed with all of the gear that they carry!

I was reading an article on the Discovery Channel’s website about how some scientists have created a study that proposes burying the leftovers from crops (for example, corn stalks) at sea. They say that this would help to reduce the carbon emissions problem that creates global warming. I don’t see how this would benefit the earth because I think that this would be polluting the ocean, wouldn’t it? Wouldn’t that be disrupting the lives of the creatures that live in the ocean? I think this is a bad idea.
