We went to my sister’s house yesterday for the big family gift exchange and dinner. We like to rotate from house to house to have the big family holiday parties. I can remember when I was younger I really dreaded going to the family parties, but now that I’m older I cherish them. Those folks who have musical instruments play them for our enjoyment and the younger kids dance to the music. We play games and fill up on a lot of great food. This year my sister went above and beyond and had a friend dress up as Santa to pass out the gifts! The kids were thrilled!
I hope everyone out there had a nice and peaceful day and had lots of good food!

My wife has been talking about redecorating the guest bathroom in a fishpond theme. She has found a nice looking Glass Vessel Sink that is a translucent crystal that she wants to buy and do her decorative painting technique on it to make it look like water lilies and goldfish in the sink. She plans on doing a reverse painting technique on the backside of the sink. We were looking online for prices on that kind of sink and found some very reasonably priced on the mrdirectint.com website. I was really surprised to see so many different styles and colors and sizes of bathroom sinks!

Today we were driving home from Bob’s house and an albino deer ran across the road in front of my car. I’ve seen photos of albino deer, but this is the first time I’ve seen one with my own eyes! I was glad I was paying attention and didn’t hit her; my wife would have been really upset with me! My wife gasped when she saw the deer! The deer was running with a small herd of about three or four other deer. I’m surprised that the albino deer survived hunting season. I wonder if any hunters saw her and decided to not shoot out of respect for her uniqueness.

My wife really loves to wear bling bling jewelry. Anything that sparkles and shines she simply adores it! That makes it fairly easy to shop for her as long as I don’t have to worry about a ring size. Some pretty earrings, a necklace or other fashion accessory like a watch and she is all smiles!

Do you have a favorite flavor of ice cream? I’m not sure that I do. I really like a variety of flavors. Lately my favorite is a pecan caramel praline flavor by Bryers. The grocery store that I shop at doesn’t always carry that flavor, so when I find it I often buy several cartons of it. I have never quite figured out why the price of ice cream fluctuates so much – it is almost as volatile as gasoline! One week it will be almost $6 for the carton, then a few weeks later it will be less than half that price! I find it very aggravating – when it is really expensive I won’t buy it. I wonder if everyone shops that way and that is perhaps the reason why every couple of weeks the price drops!

My wife asked me what I want to buy for a gift for my father for Christmas this year. I told her that I was thinking about buying him a new watch. Dad is very frugal, and has been wearing an old beat-up watch for way too long. The crystal is scratched, and the plating on the band is worn off. It just plain old looks nasty.I’ve asked him a few times why he keeps wearing that old watch and he keeps telling me that he just doesn’t see the point in throwing it away. Having lived through the depression, he likes to quote the old “Wear it out, use it up, make it do or do without” mantra that we grew up with!
My biggest concern about buying Dad a new titanium watch that he might be sentimentally attached to that old watch, and really does not want to replace it. Now he is not the kind of person to admit that he is sentimental about anything, so that is a hard call. But my wife suggested that we buy him a watch stand for him to put his old watch on, and he could display it on his bedroom dresser in a place of honor. I think that is a fine idea, don’t you?

I didn’t believe the weatherman yesterday when he said that we were going to get a snowstorm today. He has been wrong about our weather so much over the past couple of years! There have been so many times that school has been cancelled because the weatherman said it might snow (and it didn’t) that I just laughed when I heard yesterday that we were going to get at least an inch of snow today. Well, the joke is on me because we really are getting the first snow of the season today! And it is a beautiful storm; the flakes are very large and fluffy. It has been snowing for at least the last four or five hours now, which is very unusual for around here. We usually only a dusting. And yes, we have over an inch of snow. It is very pretty, and it IS making me think about Christmas being right around the corner!
