Eating out tonight

Tonight a group of my friends got together to eat dinner at our local Applebee’s restaurant.  That’s one of our favorite places to eat, the food is always good and it is always reasonably priced.  The only thing that we don’t like about it is that it has a “smoking” section.  We always ask for a seat in the “non-smoking” section but we still smell the cigarette smoke, which is just plain and simple nauseating to smell.  Never mind the health consequences of smoking and second-hand smoke, it just plain and simply smells nasty!  We were surprised that last night they allowed smoking; there are times when I’ve gone there and it was all non-smoking.  Maybe that’s only on Sundays.  Next time we think we want to go there, I’m going to call them and ask them when they have smoke-free dining.

Trying to cut down on caffeine

I think that one of the hardest addictions to kick is the caffeine addiction! I love my morning cup of joe! I just can’t seem to get started without it! My doctor says I really should cut down on caffeine, that too much is unhealthy for me. So I have been slowly cutting back. I’m down to only one cup of joe a day. I’m pretty proud of that accomplishment! I’ve tried to switch to decaf for that one cup, but I get a terrible caffeine withdrawal headache that just does not go away – even when I take headache medicine! My wife tells me that every time she has tried to quit drinking tea that the withdrawal headache lasted for two weeks! I don’t think I can deal with that for two weeks and still go to work! Wish there was an easier way!

Thanks, Chris!

Thank goodness my brother opened a bookstore a few years before I started my bakery. I was going to skip over to many important details that I hadn’t even thought about simply because I didn’t know to check them. My brother started asking me questions about accounting and taxes at the bakery and I realized I had no idea what he was talking about. That’s when he sat down and talked to me about everything from health insurance to bank card processing which was a real relief since these were items I hadn’t even considered. I don’t like to think about what would have happened if I had opened the doors before my brother got involved, but I’m really glad he did. Next time I make any important decisions I’m definitely going to ask Christopher for his advice first! Well, any important decisions concerning the well-being of my business, that is! I don’t want Chris prying into my private life what he used to do when we were kids!

A weakness for brownies

I love brownies.  I think that they are the food of the heavens.  But they have to be fudgy brownies.  I don’t really understand why I prefer the fudgy brownies over the cake-like brownies.  I think that I just enjoy the texture better.  Maybe the chocolate flavor is more concentrated.  Give me a warm brownie with vanilla ice cream and hot fudge sauce on top and you will be my friend forever!

Yummy

fried oreos

The say in the South that they can fry just about anything. At first look, I thought this was a batch of doughnuts. But it turns out they are fried Oreos. I don’t know why anyone thinks that Oreos need to be fried. But maybe they do taste good cooked up like that.
