Forget the food, I’m seeing the Thanksgiving parade!

Guest post written by Sharlene Brooks

For once, I’m not going to have to worry about which pie I’m fixing for our huge  family gathering for Thanksgiving Day. I always wonder about that because my family is all about the pies and I like to make sure that we have no repeats. But instead of doing the normal thing for Thanksgiving this year, I’m going to take my family to see the Thanksgiving Day parade!

It’s something that I’ve thought about doing for a few years now, but I finally decided to just go ahead and do it before the kids get a little older and have other things that they need to do during the Thanksgiving break. I was online a few months ago booking our hotel and everything for it when I ran across some information on getting a hearing aid. That’s also something that I’d been thinking about for a while, so I decided to go ahead and get fitted before the big trip.

I think that we’re going to have so much fun with the parade and I just want to make sure that we’re all ready for the trip and pack everything. It’s going to be a whirlwind of a trip, but I think that it’s going to be amazing!

Yummy

fried oreos

The say in the South that they can fry just about anything. At first look, I thought this was a batch of doughnuts. But it turns out they are fried Oreos. I don’t know why anyone thinks that Oreos need to be fried. But maybe they do taste good cooked up like that.

Almost ran out of gas today

I was really pushing my luck today.  I just got a Shell gas credit card that gives me a 25 cent discount for every gallon of Shell gas that I buy for the first three months that I have the card.  Some of the Shell gas stations are higher than the rest of the pack; some are running at a dead heat.  Today I had to run some errands and I knew that I was going to need to buy gas.  I also knew that I’d be driving past a Shell but not sure what their price was going to be like, compared to the rest.  On my way into town I saw their price was pretty good, so I decided that I’d fill up on the way home unless I drove past a station with a better price.  Well, there WERE some that were 4 cents cheaper, but I wouldn’t get that discount from the Shell gas card.  So I just drove right past them.  Well, let me tell you that by the time I reached that Shell on the return trip I only had one gallon of gas left in the tank!  Now THAT is cutting it close!

Mailboxes Are Important

There has been a big push for people to either better maintain their current house mailboxes or to replace them with one of the millions of mailboxes that are currently being offered, with the majority of them being available online. This has become an serious issue with our emergency personnel finding it harder to locate the proper address that they have been directed to arrive and assist at.

If you don’t have your house numbers big enough and/or legible enough, or properly placed, you can imagine what these folks have to go through in order get to their time essential based emergency as soon as possible.  Having to deal with this issue at night time must be a real burden for the driver who is all ready pumped up, ready for anything that may come along.

I have always liked the look of the wall mounted mailboxes and the wall mount mailbox was attached to the house that I spent most of my life in and is still currently owned and lived in by my folks.  So I’m going to start looking around the Internet at the wall mount mailboxes at mailboxixchange.com where the have free shipping, which is a real savings for online shoppers like myself. And the fact that they accept PayPal just makes it even better.
