Do you love a bargain? I sure do. Just a couple of weeks ago my wife found a bargain website that she has really fallen in love with. The website is called nomorerack.com, and almost every day she is buying something from that website. Just a few minutes ago she purchased three cardigan sweaters for $10 each that would have normally cost around $40 each. How can you resist a shopping bargain like that?

Of course it helps that she really DOES need some new sweaters, since she has recently gained some weight and all of her “old” sweaters no longer fit her. I don’t have a big problem with that, she has always been underweight, and now she is finally getting some meat on her bones. And most of her “old” sweaters really ARE at least ten years old. I’ve never known anyone take such good care of their clothes that they seem to last forever! We’ve bookmarked their page, and signed up for their email so we get a notice every day what the next day’s bargains will be. We like that feature a lot – getting some advance notice of sales is a good thing!

The Author of this post is Solomon Dejesus

I think that I have decided to get a new credit card. My favorite store, Ann Taylor, has started offering free shipping off of their website if you use your Ann Taylor credit card. I have only had one credit card since I was sixteen years old. My parents always warned me never to get a credit card. They said that I should only use it for emergencies. They said that if I couldn’t buy something straight out, I didn’t need it. Anyway, I always use my clear wireless internet Reading connection to log onto Ann Taylor.com and do some shopping. They usually have a greater variety of sizes and have great sales. The shipping though is usually a flat ten dollars and fifty cents. That really is a pretty good bit of money. Unless I am going to order a lot of things ( over hundred and fifty dollars worth), ordering on-line doesn’t really make sense to me. I think that I am going to think really hard about getting the credit card. I think that I will use it a lot, get free shipping, and can turn around and pay off my account as soon as I use the card.

I came across this post from 2008 and wondered why I never heard that the car I wrote about below actually coming out onto the market. Do you know if it did or not?

Post from 1/22/2008 below:

I was reading on the Discovery Channel’s website that a new car will be hitting the market later this year. It is a flying car! Basically it is a plane that has wings that can fold up so that you can drive it home and park it in your garage. It will fly for 500 miles on one tank of regular unleaded gas! Now I think this is a really awesome creation, and I’d love to have one! (I’d also like to get one of those car-boat things that were sold back in the 60s! – oh, and a hovercraft!)

Anyway, it will retail for (are you sitting down?) $194,000! I think I’ll have to wait a few decades for the price to come down! But it sure would be really awesome to own one of them!

My wife and her sister have been talking about starting a marketing business, helping local business people to improve their presences on the Internet. They’ve been tossing around a few ideas about what to call the business, and talking about how much money it will cost to start up the business. My wife came across a website that wrote about how start-up businesses run by women might be eligible for business grants, and she is going to take a look at what they will have to do in order to apply for one.

In this job market, it seems to me that creating your own job just might be a good idea. So many companies are laying off employees, and the few that are hiring are only hiring temporary or part time help so they don’t have to give them any kind of benefits. Becoming self-reliant is a good idea, don’t you agree?

I’ve always had a soft spot for our feathered friends. I keep a pair of binoculars and a bird identification book close at hand so if I spot a bird I haven’t seen before I can get a closer look and try to figure out what it is. From time to time I’m thrilled and blessed to spot a few American Bald Eagles near our house! But sightings like that are few and far between. I mostly see hawks, blue jays, robin red breasts, grosbeaks, woodpeckers, doves, nuthatches, finches and cardinals. Once in a great while I see a Northern Bluebird – what a thrill that is to see that! I see way too many turkey vultures and buzzards for my liking, though, if you know what I mean. I understand that they are a protected species and I know that they have a job to do, but they give me the creeps!

I’d like to put a few Quality birdhouses and birdfeeders in our yard to help care for the birds in our neighborhood. I suspect that if I did that I’d see a lot more of them in the yard a lot more often. I’m just not really sure what is the best kind of birdhouse. I love the colorful and whimsical ones, but I’ve read that the plain ones are more attractive to the birds. What do you think?

In my campaign to save money I’ve been thinking about replacing our exterior back door’s deadbolt lock with a remote control keyless deadbolt. There are many times when one of the family members goes out at night and leaves lights on out by the door simply because it makes it easier for them to see the lock to insert their key to get into the house. There are plenty of other lights around that area to help them see their way to the door. (Those are motion sensor lights.)

I’m thinking that it would be really nice to have the remote because there are a lot of times folks have their arms full and can’t easily unlock the door with their keys. Pushing the remote button on their keychain would let them enter the house more easily. It would also let them into the house quicker if they felt threatened in some way. I’ve been looking around on the Internet for price ranges and styles and it seems that they will cost about $100. I was glad to see that some of the systems have additional remotes available so that all of our family members can have one. Naturally these locks will also work with a key if necessary.

Guest post written by Derick Burks

It’s a girl! I can still hear the nurse saying those three wonderful words some twenty-one years ago. Pigtails and onesies have been replaced with trips to the salon and the mall with her mother, and let me say that I think my wallet misses the old days just about as much as my heart does. Nonetheless, that blonde hair and pretty blue eyes that she got from her mother have never changed. As much as I want to keep my little girl close, I know that she has grown into a strong, independent woman and now has to strike out on her own and find her place in this world. But how does a father say goodbye to his sweet little girl? That’s right, by making sure that her new home has an alarm system. Luckily, a quick internet search for Security systems St. Louis allowed me to find just the right system for daddy’s little girl. Now rest assured that this is one daddy that will be tearing up the road between our house and hers but at least I feel safer knowing that when I’m not there with her, she at least has a security system installed.
