Carpet Cleaning

Looks like we might need to look into finding a round rock carpet cleaner to come in and take care of the carpets in the house since our 11 year old male Pug has had problems with his bladder control these past couple of months. Poor guy isn’t doing so well and I knew he isn’t happy with the situation either. It really sucks to see him aging so quickly these past couple of years. We have had him a member of the family since he was 5 weeks old, the best dog we ever have had the pleasure of owning.

The carpets have needed a good cleaning for some time, but we seem to keep putting it off for one reason or another and I guess now we really need to get them professionally cleaned before Memorial Day since we will be having our annual Memorial Day Weekend bar-b-q with over 20 people attending. The wife would be very unhappy with me if they all were to come over and see the house in such disarray and I don’t think that I could do the job justice with the home carpet cleaner that we have owned for even longer than our dog.

Jurassic Onyx

I got a quick lesson on vessel sinks over the weekend. One of the topics of conversation over Easter dinner was home remodeling and my niece is all excited about the new vessel sink that she just found and ordered online. I’m sorry but I had never seen or heard of vessel sinks before, so after dinner was done and over with I was brought over to one of the laptops that was brought along (funny how people don’t leave home without their computer, even at holiday family functions) and shown a website that has some of the most amazing looking vessel sinks. The same website that my niece ordered from.

I have to say that I agree that these are some good looking sink options and I’m not surprised that they are becoming popular. They come in stone, glass and copper, the stone ones are my favorite. Check out the one that I really felt was a good looking specimen, it’s called Eden Bath Natural Stone Sink – Jurassic Onyx.

Make Over With Metal Tiles

It seems that stainless steel tile is becoming a very popular way to tile in numerous ways and rooms in homes these days. My sister and her hubby are seriously looking into having some pretty nice looking decorative metal tiles from MetalStainlessSteelTiles.comĀ  to be installed in their recent kitchen make over, that I really am starting to appreciate the look of. I have to say that at first the thought of stainless steel tiles just didn’t set right with my taste, but after looking at the big picture I do believe that it will look pretty darned good.

They have been working on this kitchen make over since the end of the year and they really want to wrap it up and move on to other outside projects that they could be getting into while we are having perfect weather for outdoor projects. I’ve been getting a lot done outside, you have to take this perfect 70 degree weather, with no humidity, while you can. I’m ready to drag out the tiller and get started on tilling our small vegetable and herb garden this weekend.

Rewiring a lamp

I have a very old floor lamp that I was given by a dear aunt. She tells me that she bought it over thirty years ago. I love it dearly, but it has finally given up the ghost. The socket died, and I decided it was appropriate to rewire the entire thing because the plug was the old fashioned kind that just was not as safe as the newer ones. So I went to the hardware store and bought what I needed to rewire the lamp. It took a couple of hours to take it all apart and rewire it, but I did it myself and it turned out fine.

I had called an electrician and asked him how much he would charge to re-wire it and he had told me it would cost over $100! The rewiring supplies cost me less than $20, so I’m thrilled that I saved $80 by re-wiring it myself! And I’m thrilled that I kept the lamp from going to the junkyard, so I did my part to save the environment today!

Really scary weather

My sister was telling me about the horrible weather she and her household experienced yesterday. They apparently were right on the outskirts of some of the horrible tornadoes that were ripping through the country yesterday and last night. She told me that when they looked out their window there was hail the size of golf balls coming in torrents, bouncing up higher than their house after they hit the ground. She said that the noise they made when they hit her roof was the loudest noise she could ever remember hearing.

Her dogs were terrified, and she put leashes on all of them and tried to keep them together near the front door of the house. She said that was in case they had to vacate the house in a hurry. I was rather surprised to hear her say that because I thought that the advice for tornadoes is to try to stay as close to the center of the house as possible, like in a closet or bathroom.

But thankfully her house was not damaged, and her cars survived too. I am really grateful for that. I don’t know if I could have handled the situation any better than she did.
